Its impressive preservation and rich architectural decoration make it unique. Recent research and excavations have shed new light on the history of the city, revealing some remnants from the early Iron Age. The monumental structures of ancient Aspendos mainly belong to the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The city was continuously inhabited until the Byzantine and Seljuk periods.
